Community terms, briefly explained
No jargon fog: the words used on this site and inside the platform – two sentences each.
- Community platform
- A place of your own where your members write, learn and meet – under your name, your design and your domain. Unlike a Facebook group, it belongs to you, not to someone else's network.
- Feed
- The chronological stream of posts and events in your community. It shows what's happening right now – and keeps people coming back.
- Thread
- A discussion whose replies sit indented under the original post. That keeps side conversations readable instead of tangled.
- Moderation
- Everything that keeps content civil: reporting, hiding, restoring, enforcing rules. With us there's an AI second opinion – a human decides.
- Presence
- The live indication of who is reading, typing or replying. It makes a community feel inhabited instead of dead.
- Embed
- A block of your community placed inside another website – for example discussions under your blog posts. You don't have to migrate anything.
- Custom domain
- Your community runs under your address, e.g. community.yourcompany.com, instead of someone else's. With us that's intended for silo customers.
- Roles
- Who may do what: owner, admin, moderator, editor, viewer. Roles stop everyone from being able to do everything – and stop nobody from being able to do anything.
- Products
- The individually switchable parts of the platform: discussions, moderation, pages, feed, courses, events. You take only what you need.
- Early access
- A block that exists but isn't released to everyone yet. We label it that way – instead of letting it look like a finished plan promise.
- Members-only
- Content only signed-in members of your community can see. With us that's the default; publicly readable is a deliberate switch.
- Data export
- Your content and member data in a machine-readable package. It's the reason switching to us isn't a one-way street.
